Plagued by Dust-Devils

Not much activity these days on my page I'm afraid but here's a taste of the uncomfortably hot days of Summer '26 at the Phoenix MFC field where the green grass has gone. UK and mainland Europe were beleaguered by 4 or 5 heatwaves in July and August, we regularly had high temperatures 35ºC+ in UK and 40ºC+ on the Continent. These catastrophic canicular weeks brought massive wildfires to some places. I only suffered from eyes full of dust from a passing devil; I never saw so many before, maybe one every couple of years! Greg Lewis thought the day would be very good for thermal lift, it was, but many of the thermals were tiny... dust-devils... and no use for his large Pike Paradigm-A Sports Class GPS model. He still did well though practicing. Do a search for this model, there's plenty available but in short it is made by Samba models with its design by Kolb and Rodax. The span is 4726mm and a.u.w. from 4900g - 7000g depending on ballast. Dust-devil: Diable de poussière, Staubteufel and Will-Willy in Oz.
