If the Nikon Zf is a tailored suit, most native Z glass are rental shoes. In Hong Kong, I hunt for a 35 that finally completes the look—the Artralab 35mm 1960 (aka the “Nonikkor”). It’s all-metal, retro, flare-happy, and way more character than charts.
We unbox it in Mong Kok, run a nostalgia photo walk (Tiny toy stores, minibuses, neon), then compare shots against a Nikkor 35/2.8 AI-S and Tamron 35/1.4. Wide open only. Real streets, real flares, honest pros/cons: great color and separation, occasionally nervous bokeh, not clinically sharp at f/1.4, delicious flare if you’re into it.
