Hatteras Island: Homes Lost to the Sea + 5 Miles of NEW Google Street View on the ORV Interdunal Rd!

Hatteras Island is changing right before our eyes. We headed out from Frisco Campground for what was supposed to be a fun day exploring Cape Hatteras and driving our Jeep out to Cape Point. But along the way, we came across a section of Hatteras Island where the Atlantic Ocean is literally reclaiming the shoreline. Homes that once stood safely behind the dunes are now dangerously close to the surf. Some have already been claimed by the ocean, leaving behind only pilings and debris. Others appear to be facing the same fate. We stopped to take a closer look and captured some of what we saw before continuing our trip toward Cape Point. But that's only the first half of this adventure. 🚙 Then it was time to put Hatteras Island on Street View! After reaching Cape Point, we jumped back in the Jeep and began a 5.3-mile drive along the ORV Interdunal Road toward Frisco Campground—while creating a brand-new Google Maps Street View along the way. This remote beach access road had never been available on Google Street View, so you'll get to ride along with us as we document it for Google Maps for the first time.
