The foundations of Severna are beginning to take shape.
In this episode, we follow the republic through the years 1971–1975 as the first major pieces of national infrastructure are built and the empty North Sea island begins its transformation into a functioning socialist state.
Power, water, construction and transport all have to come before large-scale settlement can begin. The early years are therefore dominated by enormous infrastructure projects, careful planning and the constant problem of making Severna financially sustainable before the population starts to grow.
We take a look at the developing lignite power industry, the island’s water and electricity networks, the expansion of the port and construction sector, and the first stages of urban development.
But Severna is not being built simply as another city.
The long-term objective is to create an entire island republic: a densely populated, heavily industrialised and increasingly self-sufficient society capable of eventually supporting hundreds of thousands of citizens.
This series combines normal Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic gameplay with a documentary-style history of the fictional Republic of Severna, following its development year by year as though it were a real country.
There is still a very long way to go.
The industries are small.
The towns are only just beginning.
The railway network barely exists.
But by 1975, the foundations of modern Severna are firmly in place.
Welcome to the founding years.

Learn how to build a republic without going bankrupt by transitioning from survival mode to profitable oil exports.
Sava’s first phase focused on basic survival, securing power, water, and construction materials to turn an empty island into a functioning state. Now, the objective shifts toward long-term economic stability. By moving beyond simple utility management, we are beginning to exploit the oil reserves beneath the island, turning raw exports into a reliable income stream.
This episode covers the transition from basic infrastructure planning to a self-sufficient industrial economy. We analyze the development of the lignite power industry, the expansion of the port sector, and the logistical challenges of scaling up from a small settlement to a major republic. It is a detailed look at how to manage complex city building mechanics while keeping the treasury in the black.
