All Alfa Romeo Giulia, Stelvio and 4C vehicles come to North America with unprotected battery posts. During transportation across the sea the electrified battery posts become contaminated by 700 to 1000 hours at sea. The salt air causes the corrosion to start on contact surface areas and even brand new cars have strong evidence of this issue. The result over time is mysterious glitches, check engine lights and non-start conditions. Even though the car has ISO 9001 rated components, low-voltage conditions and poor continuity result in false flags. Service dealer techs often chase phantom issues on perfectly good components. Battery post cleaning is not part of the pre-delivery inspection process on a new car nor listed in the maintenance schedule. Battery post corrosion is endemic to any alpha vehicle shipped overseas, whereas the European market vehicles do not have this issue. It’s up to Alfa Romeo North America to resolve the situation at the factory before the car is shipped over the ocean. Once the battery posts are cleaned and protected, Alfa Romeo vehicles will deliver bulletproof reliable service. Owners should have this done or simply do it themselves if necessary.
