The same pane of glass shows you a garden in the afternoon and your own face at night. Nothing about the glass changed.
This video explains what actually decides whether you see through a surface or see yourself in it: glass always reflects a fixed share of the light hitting it, and your eye simply reads whichever image is brighter. It covers why the share reflected depends on the two materials meeting at the surface, how enormous the brightness gap between a lit room and a dark garden really is, and why the same effect shows up on water and on a switched-off screen.
