Here’s our take on “Teardrops From My Eyes,” written by Rudolph Toombs and recorded live at The Bassment in Saskatoon on April 30, 2026. Ruth Brown's 1950 recording made this one of the early big hits of rhythm & blues. We’ve always liked the way a good song can wander a little outside its original neighbourhood, so here it is making a visit to the Lost Highway Navigators' particular corner of the country. This performance was part of the live recording that became Livelong. We went into The Bassment that night intending to record an album of our own songs, but a software failure ate most of the first set. The second set survived—and it contained a lot of covers. We liked the recordings enough to decide that losing the first set didn't mean losing the night. The Navigators' arrangements tend to move around from show to show, so this is not meant to be the definitive version of “Teardrops From My Eyes.” It's simply the version that happened that night, with six musicians, a room full of people and whatever happened to come together onstage.
