From Old Pants to One-of-a-Kind Lace Pants | Upcycling Story

A pair of oversized linen pants, a collection of saved lace scraps, and an idea that finally brought them together. In this film, I share the detailed story of turning old pants into one-of-a-kind, wide-leg lace pants with a bohemian feel and shabby chic touches. These pants had spent a long time in my closet because they were too big to wear. For this project, that extra room became an advantage. I took them apart, arranged and stitched a lace patchwork over the original fabric, and added lace-covered panels along the inner legs for extra width. Then I brought everything back together with French seams, an elastic waistband, working pockets, and vintage lace binding around the hems. The finishing touches came from appliqués and little remnants of coordinating trims. Every material had been saved—from the pants and lace to the elastic in the waistband. This is a making story, with enough detail to follow the process and ideas you can adapt to your own project. Quiet music, the sounds of sewing, and a little patience accompany the transformation.
