Undercover Chuck Berry Orders Steak — Black Waitress Slips Him a Note That Stops Him Cold September 1986. An anonymous letter arrives at Chuck Berry's home in Wentzville, Missouri — with a newspaper photo of an old man being thrown out of Maybellene's, the upscale St. Louis steakhouse that carries Chuck's name over the door and his late mother's barbecue sauce on every plate. So the father of rock and roll did something nobody expected. He put on the same worn-out clothes he wore the day he walked out of a Missouri reformatory on his 21st birthday in 1947, glued a ragged gray beard over his famous mustache, and walked in alone as a penniless drifter. He was mocked. He was pushed to the worst table in the house. And without knowing it, he was quietly set up for something far worse — until a young Black waitress, risking her job, her daughter's medicine and her brother's tuition, slipped him a tiny folded note. What it said stopped Chuck Berry cold. And what he did next ended everything that was rotten in that room. ❤️ Like if you believe doing the right thing still matters. 💬 Tell us where you're watching from. 🔔 Subscribe for more unforgettable stories inspired by legendary lives.
