12 Classic Stars Whose Scenes ‘WEREN’T ACTED’... Only 3 Were REAL

Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Judy Garland and Janet Leigh all have a scene that Hollywood legend says was not acted. On October 27, 1955, audiences watched Dean’s teenager scream at his parents in Rebel Without a Cause, and the boy on the screen had been dead for twenty-seven days. For seventy years, people have said the pain in that scene was real and the camera simply caught it. Almost none of these stories comes with a source. So each of the twelve scenes in this countdown is labeled on the record, reported, or legend, and only some earn a point. When a scene is called real, what does the record show, and where does the legend begin? A countdown of classic Hollywood scenes that weren’t acted, from Casablanca, A Streetcar Named Desire, The Misfits and Psycho to Last Tango in Paris, checked against memoirs, interviews and biographies.
