7 Cheap DIY Upgrades That Make a Senior's Bedroom Fire-Safe in One Afternoon

Most fatal home fires among older adults start where people feel safest: the bedroom, in the middle of the night. Adults sixty-five and older face more than twice the fire death risk of the general population, and the fixes that change those odds are cheap, simple, and easy to overlook. None of them requires a contractor, and most take just minutes. Number one costs nothing at all, and only about one in four people actually do it.
