Walking Through the Lives of the Enslaved | BY THE SWEAT OF OUR BROWS: Tea Library No. 006

This week, I visited the Culture & Heritage Museum in McConnells, South Carolina, for “By the Sweat of Our Brows,” a living-history experience centered on the lives and labor of enslaved people on a plantation during the Revolutionary era. Walking the grounds and seeing history portrayed where everyday life once unfolded gave me an opportunity to slow down, observe, learn, and reflect. This journal entry isn’t simply about looking at a beautiful historic home—it is about remembering the people whose labor, experiences, and stories are an important part of that history. History holds stories that are beautiful, difficult, complicated, and necessary to remember. Preserving them allows us to better understand the people who came before us and carry those lessons forward.
