New to the NFL? Karen’s Journey to Becoming a Ravens Fan | 4th & Global

Karen only discovered the NFL a few weeks ago. She chose the Baltimore Ravens because her dad always told her to pick a team based on your favourite colour, and hers is purple. 💜 In this episode of 4th & Global, the series following international fans' journeys into American football, Karen talks about what put her off for years, how she got started, and why she thinks it's far easier to get into than people believe. If you've ever thought "I'd love to get into the NFL, but I wouldn't know where to start", this one is for you. In this episode: • How Karen got into the NFL after spotting my Packers hat • Why the yard lines nearly put her off for good • The advice that helped: ignore the lines and follow the ball • You don't need to watch a full three hours (or subscribe to anything) • Why NFL RedZone is brilliant for new fans • Choosing a team by colour and falling for the Ravens logo • Why the NFL community is so friendly • What's still confusing her, and what happens next ⏱️ CHAPTERS 0:00 Meet Karen 0:51 How Karen got into the NFL 1:58 Super Bowl halftime shows and the NFL before she watched it 3:25 What put her off: the yards and the field markings 4:20 Ignore the lines at first 5:28 Seeing an NFL game in the UK or the US 6:37 You don't need to watch a whole game 8:10 Her first watch party and learning fast 10:10 You don't need to know every rule 11:31 "You can't learn to swim by reading about it" 13:48 Picking a team: purple, the Ravens and the logo 14:48 The first piece of merchandise 15:22 Karen's next steps 16:15 What she still finds confusing 17:25 Why the ad breaks can help you learn 18:36 The community around American sports 20:29 Final thoughts 💬 JOIN THE COMMUNITY Are you a new or international NFL fan?
