How to Clean Up QuickBooks Unapplied Cash Payment Income / Expense

In this episode, I explain what the Unapplied Cash Payment Income and Unapplied Cash Bill Payment Expense accounts are in QuickBooks Online, why they show up, and how I clean them up. I walk through a normal invoice + payment workflow, then show what goes wrong when a customer payment is dated before the invoice (and how the same timing issue creates unapplied cash bill payment expense). I demonstrate how QuickBooks makes cash-basis adjustments that land in these unapplied accounts, and I show the correct fix. I also show why journal entries don’t truly fix this and can create duplicated income and lingering balances.
