Maiden Voyage by Kellee Patterson, from the 1973 album 'Maiden Voyage' Cut from the 1973 album of the same name, Kellee Patterson’s "Maiden Voyage" rides a warm, soulful wave buoyed by Ernest Vantrease’s piano chords and shimmering trumpet lines from Everett Turner. The bass interplay between John Heard’s double bass and Henry Davis’s Fender electric bass adds a rich, textured depth that anchors the track with a laid-back yet insistent pulse, capturing the essence of early ’70s soul-jazz at its sun-soaked, West Coast best. Produced by Gene Russell and recorded at Hollywood Spectrum Studios, this Black Jazz Records release is a vinyl treasure cherished by collectors who appreciate its quadraphonic mix and organic, analogue vibe.
