The disappearance of Brandon Swanson remains one of Minnesota’s most haunting unsolved missing-person cases. After his car became stuck on a rural road, the 19-year-old called his parents and walked into the dark. For 47 minutes, Brandon remained on the phone with his father. He described fence lines, open fields and lights in the distance. Then, at approximately 3:10 a.m., he suddenly exclaimed, “Oh, sh*t.” The call ended. Brandon Swanson was never seen or heard from again. In this documentary, we reconstruct Brandon’s final known movements, the discovery of his abandoned Chevrolet Lumina, the searches around the Yellow Medicine River and Mud Creek, and the unanswered questions that remain eighteen years later. We also examine the law created in Brandon’s name after his family encountered delays while attempting to report him missing. Brandon’s Law now requires Minnesota law enforcement agencies to accept missing-person reports without delay, including reports involving adults. Brandon was 19 when he disappeared on May 14, 2008.
