Five hundred years ago, one of the greatest cities of medieval India stood among the enormous boulders of southern India.
Its name was Vijayanagara.
At its height, Vijayanagara was a powerful empire and a thriving center of trade, culture, religion, architecture, and political power. Its capital was filled with enormous temples, markets, royal buildings, fortifications, reservoirs, and thousands of people.
But in 1565, after the Battle of Talikota, the city was captured and devastated.
Centuries later, its ruins remain scattered across the landscape of present-day Hampi.
In this documentary, we explore the rise, golden age, wealth, architecture, enemies, fall, and lasting legacy of Vijayanagara — one of the greatest capitals of medieval India.
From Krishnadevaraya and the magnificent temples of Hampi to the Battle of Talikota and the ruins that remain today...
this is the story of Vijayanagara.
