This is tale of what happens when you neglect a boat system. The year before I was attempting to anchor in Newport Harbor Rhode Island with a thunderstorm bearing down on me any minute. We found a good spot. I left Mary Beth at the Helm, and went up to set the anchor. Little did I know that we wouldn't be anchoring that night or anytime soon for that matter. I tried lowering the anchor and heard a grinding noise. That didn't sound good so I pressed the switch to pull up the anchor. There it was again...luckily I got the anchor back up before I heard a series of thuds below me and final loud thunk deep below like something had fallen.
