You fell in love at first sight. You knew nothing about them — not their history, not their character, not how they behave when they're tired. And yet what you felt wasn't curiosity. It was recognition. That's the problem Carl Jung set out to explain. Recognition requires something to recognise — and you had never met them. His answer: you had. Not them. An image of them, carried inside you, waiting for a face to land on. He called it the anima, or the animus. In this video: where that image actually comes from — the archetypal layer, the parent who shaped it, and the culture that dressed it. Why projection needs a hook in the real person. The exact arc of idealisation and collapse, and why "you're not the person I fell in love with" is literally true and has nothing to do with them. Then the part almost nobody covers: what it's like to be the one carrying someone else's projection — adored and unseen at the same time. Jung's four stages, what possession by these figures actually looks like, five ways to withdraw a projection — and an honest complication: research on positive illusions suggests couples who idealise each other last longer, not shorter. I'm also direct about where Jung's original formulation is dated, and what survives the criticism. — WATCH NEXT The Archetypes — the patterns you inherit rather than learn    • The Archetypes: Why You Keep Playing the S...   The Shadow Self — the part of you that you refuse to see    • Carl Jung's Shadow Explained — Why You Kee...   Full series — Carl Jung and the Nature of Reality:    • Carl Jung and the Nature of Reality   — Quantum Psyche explores the structures underneath ordinary experience — Jungian depth psychology, the nature of consciousness, and what research actually says about the mind.
