Is the Day of Atonement Finished, or Prophetic?
For many Christians, the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur) feels like an ancient ritual that has nothing to do with the modern church. After all, didn’t Jesus pay the price on the cross once and for all? If the blood of Jesus completely covers our sins, why would New Covenant believers ever need to observe a day of fasting, repentance, and "afflicting the soul"?
So the question becomes: Should Christians keep the Feast of Atonement today?
Does observing it mean we are denying the finished work of the cross, or does it actually point us to a deeper understanding of our High Priest?
In this lesson, we explore the holiest day on the biblical calendar. We are moving past the assumption that the feasts were simply "done away with" and looking at how Yom Kippur reveals the ultimate plan of redemption, the cleansing of the sanctuary, and the final Jubilee.
In this teaching, we cover:
The Two Goats (Leviticus 16): Understanding the profound prophetic meaning behind the Lord's goat (the sacrifice for sin) and the Azazel scapegoat (the complete removal of sin from the camp).
The Heavenly Tabernacle: How the Book of Hebrews explains Christ’s ongoing role as our ultimate High Priest who entered the Holy of Holies not made with human hands.
Afflicting the Soul: What God actually meant when He commanded His people to "afflict your soul" (fasting) and why corporate repentance and humility are still crucial spiritual disciplines for the church today.
The Trumpet of Jubilee: Why the true Jubilee—the ultimate release from spiritual debt and physical bondage—is prophetically tied to the close of the Day of Atonement.
Stop ignoring the depth of the Old Testament. Stop treating God's appointed times as ancient history. Learn to see your Savior in the sanctuary.
