Beyond the Berlin Wall and Checkpoint Charlie, these are the everyday experiences of Berliners during the height of the Cold War and the lesser-known sights of 1960s Berlin: the city's ghost stations beneath East Berlin; newspapers; shops; beaches, and cafes, in one of history's most remarkable divided cities. Through restored and colorized archival footage, discover what everyday life was really like at the heart of the Cold War in divided Berlin. Originally black-and-white film, this video has been colorized and edited, with added narration and historical context to provide a deeper understanding of the people, places, and events. All footage is Creative Commons archival material, recolorized using HDConvert, with no modern additions beyond color, my editing between different videos, and my commentary to provide more background into the times.
