Snorkeling The Jawbone Marine Sanctuary

Located near Williamstown, Victoria, the 'Jawbone Marine Sanctuary shoreline geology is basalt, the seaward end of lava flows that characterize Melbourne's western plains. The sanctuary is shallow and mostly under 4 metres deep'. This video is a leisurely snorkel from the beach side on the East, to the mangrove lined basalt edge around on the West side. We pass through areas denuded by Sea-urchins and Sea-stars, then on to well vegetated areas supporting a range of marine life. This area is home to Zebra fish, Banjo rays and a number of Dusky Morwong (that feature regularly in this clip). The temperature and bright sunlight impact the shallow water plants creating gas bubbles on photosynthetic surfaces (ebullition). It's looks like we're swimming through champagne. This edited video, shot on a GoPro Hero 7, is a document on the current condition, and shows some of the seasonally occurring species at the wonderful Jawbone Marine Sanctuary.
