We thought we knew ball. Turns out… maybe not as much as we thought.
On this episode of The Gridiron Breakdown, we revisit some of our preseason and early-season assumptions about college football and the NFL and see which takes have aged like fine wine—and which ones should probably be buried forever.
We start with the things we thought we knew that are proving to be true, including the increasingly painful reality that a bad offense paired with a great defense can only take a football team so far and the shocking realization that the AFC South may be even worse than we imagined.
Then we flip the script and revisit the things we thought would be true that are looking very, very wrong. Are Texas, Oregon, and USC actually legitimate College Football Playoff and national championship contenders? And what happened to the idea that Justin Herbert + Mike McDaniel would be a match made in football heaven? Let's just say… fools' gold.
We'll also pull out the preseason College Football Playoff picks and see where we nailed it, where we completely missed, and whether our original predictions still have a chance of surviving the season.
And then it's time for Six Rounds of Lightning, featuring six huge games with major College Football Playoff, conference, and national implications:
🏈 #2 Georgia at #6 Alabama
🏈 #7 Indiana at Nebraska
🏈 #10 LSU at Kentucky
🏈 #1 Texas vs. Oklahoma
🏈 North Dakota State at UNLV
🏈 #19 USC at Penn State
It's college football picks, playoff predictions, NFL analysis, hot takes, hindsight, and a healthy dose of admitting when we were dead wrong.
This is The Gridiron Breakdown—football talk for the fans, by the fans.
