Adults Proves Hollywood Is Doing Sitcoms Wrong

Adults Season 2 is proof that sitcoms need time to become great. The FX comedy made a massive leap from its first season to its second, and I think that improvement exposes one of the biggest problems with how streaming treats sitcoms. Shows like The Office, Parks and Recreation, Seinfeld, Friends and Community all needed time to figure out their characters, writing and chemistry. But modern streaming sitcoms are often given just 8 episodes and expected to immediately compete with shows that had 20+ episodes a season. Adults is a perfect example of what can happen when a comedy is actually given the chance to find its voice. So why are we still making sitcoms this way?
