Sizhu One-Man Ensemble: Yun Qing 云庆 | Cloud Celebration | Ten Parts, One Musician | 一人包办，十全十美

Yun Qing (云庆, “Cloud Celebration”) is one of the Eight Great Pieces of Jiangnan Sizhu. The tune originated from the Yun Qing Guang section of the Qing-dynasty suite Luogu Sihe. Over time, sizhu musicians expanded the material through ornamentation and variation, eventually developing it into an independent piece. For this recording, Sunny Zhang Zhitao, leader of the Qingyue Ensemble of the Classical Chinese Music Society, once again performs the entire ensemble by himself. The instrumentation includes: Dizi, sheng, xiao, pipa, sanxian, qinqin, yangqin, zheng erhu, fan erhu, and guban. Sunny is a botanist and a Shanghainese American born in the United States. He studied piano as a child, then taught himself this remarkable range of Chinese instruments. In recent years, he has also returned regularly to Shanghai to learn from senior Jiangnan sizhu musicians. After San Liu, here is another of the Eight Great Pieces: One musician.
