Onimusha: Way of the Sword Description: Onimusha: Way of the Sword is an action-adventure game developed and published by Capcom, and marks the return of the mainline Onimusha series for the first time since Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams in 2006. Set in a dark fantasy version of Kyoto during the Edo period, the game follows Miyamoto Musashi, a samurai modelled after legendary Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune. Musashi finds himself battling rival swordsmen, demons and the supernatural Genma. Combat focuses on deliberate swordplay, with players able to strike, parry, dodge and guard against attacks. Timing is crucial, with successful parries and attacks allowing Musashi to perform the devastating Break Issen, instantly dismembering ordinary enemies. Musashi is also equipped with a mysterious Oni Gauntlet, which absorbs the souls of defeated enemies. Yellow souls restore health, red souls can be used for upgrades, while blue souls allow Musashi to unleash powerful Oni Armaments. The Oni Gauntlet also gives Musashi access to Oni Vision, allowing him to identify demons and enemies throughout the environment. While the game is largely linear, there are open areas to explore and side quests to discover, with the adventure expected to take around 20 hours to complete. Capcom has designed Way of the Sword as a modern return for the Onimusha series, with a focus on grounded, deliberate sword combat rather than Soulslike mechanics. Real-life swordsmen were brought in during motion capture to help make the game's swordplay feel authentic, while Capcom also consulted temple officials to create a realistic depiction of feudal Japan.
