Geoff Hohwald plays two Gold Tone OB-12 Top Tension banjos back to back at Banjo Warehouse in Yellow Springs, Ohio: first a standard OB-12, then our OB-12 with a carved interior resonator. In Geoff's words: "This one has the normal resonator, which if you were to take it off, it's absolutely flat in the bottom. And the other one has a lot of that wood taken out of there, so the back is thinner."
The Gold Tone OB-12 Top Tension is Greg Rich's first Gold Tone design, a tribute to the Gibson top tension banjos of the late 1930s, with a walnut neck and resonator, a pre-war formula brass flathead tone ring, a three-ply maple rim and a Prucha Presto tailpiece.
The OB-12 with the carved interior resonator is a Banjo Warehouse exclusive. Only the back of the resonator is different: the inside is carved, so the back is thinner. The back on both banjos is solid, with no laminations. It is new and comes with its case and Gold Tone's lifetime limited warranty to the original owner.
