Allegretto (5:50) Žilvinas Smalys - bassoon Composed in August 2026 Recirded on September 3rd 2026 Santiago de Chile This Sonata for is a tribute to the golden age of the classical bassoon—from the elegance of W.A. Mozart, J. Chr. Bach and Hummel to the virtuosity, theatricality, and wit of Weber and Rossini. Stylistically it's not precisely tied to one single influence - you can view it as a compilation of influences from this era The classical era gave us a good deal of concertante works for bassoon, yet no large-scale works for unaccompanied bassoon. This Sonata takes up that challenge, imagining a solo work that might have existed—and bringing it into the present.
