Spotlight on conduct of senior police officers

The arrest and court appearance of suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya has placed the spotlight firmly on the conduct of senior police officers. Sibiya appeared in the Randburg Magistrates' Court facing allegations including rape, sexual grooming of a child and trafficking, and was remanded in custody at Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre ahead of his bail application on 29 September. The State says concerns about possible escape and witness intimidation informed the decision.
