During his early days as a student of Vedanta at Ananda Kutir in Rishikesh under Swami Sivananda, Swami Chinmayananda developed an unusual physical affliction caused by intensive pranayama (breath-control) practice: an insatiable, constant hunger that no amount of food could satisfy. Recognizing the subtle nature of the issue, Swami Sivananda directed the young Swamiji to Sri Ma Anandamayi for assistance. What followed was an unconventional and miraculous act of healing: The Four Rotis: Sri Ma requested four rotis to be brought and instructed Swami Chinmayananda to take a small bite from each one. The Healing Gesture: She then directed him to place the partially eaten rotis on top of his head and rest his right hand over them. Instantly, his insatiable hunger vanished, and the imbalance caused by his spiritual practice was cured. Years later, Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda fondly recounted this incident, humorously noting that no scriptural text or shastra prescribes placing partially eaten rotis on one's head to cure hunger. Through this story, Gurudev highlighted the transcendent, divine nature and effortless grace of Sri Ma Anandamayi. #SriMaAnandamayi #SwamiChinmayananda #TheFourRotis #SpiritualHealing #DivineGrace #MatriSatsang #Vedanta #ChinmayaMission
