Secret Agents Mission: Wonderment

The Secret Agents of Change, founded by Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer and Sherry Richert Belul, are a group of people who aim to spread surreptitious joy and kindness in playful and unexpected ways. Our missions are uplifting, simple, and creative. Here's how it works: Secret Agents can join a live call — or watch the replay — in which Rosemerry shares a poem and Sherry offers a simple, easy-to-execute, prompt to send you out into the day with purpose and love — and a bit of creativity, too. Later, everyone reports back in our Facebook group to share stories. (However, you don’t have to be on Facebook to participate!) These missions are so connecting and uplifting. Right now we need you to teach us it is possible to swallow what is weighty and still be able to rise. We need you to remind us we can be furious and scared and near demolished by injustice and still thrill at the taste of a strawberry, ripe and sweet, can still meet a stranger and shake their hand, believing in their humanness. We need you to show us how we, too, can fall into the darkest, unplumbed pit and learn there a courage and beauty we could never learn from the light. If you have drowned in sorrow and still have somehow found a way to breathe, please, lead us. You are the ones with the lanterns we need, the ones we will use to find our way back into the refuge of each other’s hearts.   —Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer  from The Wonderment (Wildhouse Publishing, 2026) ***This Mission Prompt: Secret Agent, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to grab your metaphorical lantern and shine some light on wonderment for a world that can often be exhausted, scared, and sorrowful. Yes, believe that we can swallow what is weighty and still have the energy and courage to lift our hands to help others. In fact, because you are here, Rosemerry and I are CERTAIN you can spread some light, some joy, some wonder in your own creative, unique way. How do we create wonderment in a weary world? Here are some ideas: Write a tiny note or create a piece of art that says, “Something wonderful could happen today,” and tuck it inside a Little Free Library book. Tie a removable tag to a park bench or other appropriate spot that says, “Pause here. Take one slow breath. Notice something beautiful or colorful.” Print out Rosemerry’s poem and a handwritten note on a card and leave it on the café table for the next person who sits there to find. Leave a blank, stamped postcard with the prompt, “Send this to someone whose heart has been a refuge for you.” Draw a tiny treasure map leading to a beautiful flower garden or public mural; post it on a community board. Place a cheerful note beneath the paper towels in a public restroom: “A stranger is quietly wishing you a beautiful day. I hope you see something wondrous.” Leave a few pieces of sidewalk chalk in a park with the invitation, “Draw something wonderful for the next person.” Place a small envelope on a park bench or in the library, marked, “A little wonder for whoever finds this.” Inside, include an encouraging note, a pressed flower, a gold dollar coin, a heart-shaped stone, or a beautiful quotation. Write a list titled “Five Wonders Within Walking Distance” and leave it on a community bulletin board in a rec center, library, or cafe.
