Dolomites 4K drone video — aerial footage of Italy's Dolomite Mountains, South Tyrol & Italian Alps. UHD aerial tour over the best Dolomites locations in summer.
The Dolomites are a mountain range in the Southern Limestone Alps in northeastern Italy. They stretch roughly between the Adige River to the west and the Piave River to the east, covering approximately 15,000+ km² of mountain terrain spread across three regions: Trentino-Alto Adige (South Tyrol and Trentino), Veneto, and Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
In 2009, the Dolomites were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List — specifically as a natural heritage site (for their exceptional scenic beauty and geological significance). The site isn't a single continuous area: it consists of 9 separate mountain groups with a total protected area of about 1,419 km², plus a buffer zone. One reason for the listing is the unique geology — the rock formed from ancient coral reefs on the floor of a tropical sea over 250 million years ago.
Highest point. Mount Marmolada (~3,343 m), nicknamed the "Queen of the Dolomites"; it holds the range's only significant glacier.
Origin of the name. Both the mountains and the mineral "dolomite" are named after the French geologist Déodat de Dolomieu, who first described the rock in the late 18th century.
