Layers Anarc 2 is here, and this time I wanted to properly test whether Layers actually fixed the problems we saw with the first-generation Anarc. I have been using the Anarc 2 for multiple days and tested it during sleep, gym workouts, indoor walking, strength training, outdoor walking and normal everyday usage. For health and fitness tracking, I compared the Layers Anarc 2 with: • Whoop 5.0 • Apple Watch Ultra Gen 1 • Layers Anarc Gen 1 We tested: • Heart rate accuracy • Sleep tracking • Deep Sleep, Light Sleep and REM tracking • Strength-training HR accuracy • Indoor walking • Outdoor GPS accuracy • Workout AOD • Battery life • Charging • Nexora OS • UI smoothness and bugs • Strap comfort and security The biggest surprise for me was Nexora OS. The overall UI, animations and smoothness are dramatically better compared to the first-generation watch, and during my testing I did not encounter the major watch-side bugs that I experienced with Anarc 1. Sleep timing was also surprisingly accurate on multiple nights when compared with Whoop 5.0, although the individual sleep stages were quite different. Workout tracking was more mixed. During normal walking and outdoor activity, Anarc 2 performed surprisingly close to Whoop and Apple Watch, while intense strength training exposed some limitations in heart-rate tracking. The new built-in GPS also performed reasonably well during my outdoor test, and the switch from wireless charging to a pogo-pin Type-C charger has made charging faster and more practical. Overall, Anarc 2 feels significantly more mature than the original Anarc, but there are still areas that Layers can improve.
