How to Become an Interventional Radiologist in the US | Dr. Bader Abou Shaar

Dr. Bader Abou Shaar is a PGY-2 Integrated Interventional Radiology resident at Cleveland Clinic and a non-U.S. international medical graduate who successfully matched into an integrated IR program in the United States. He is a 10th-batch graduate of Alfaisal University and has firsthand experience navigating the U.S. residency application process as an IMG, which fuels his passion for mentoring international medical students and graduates interested in radiology and interventional radiology. He has presented at national and international conferences on topics such as ACR TI-RADS, genicular artery embolization, and post-acute COVID-19 syndrome, reflecting a strong commitment to academic research and scholarship. His clinical and research interests focus on novel minimally invasive image-guided therapies, academic advancement, and expanding global access to interventional radiology education, alongside delivering patient-centered, evidence-based care and supporting future physicians pursuing IR training. In this session, Dr. Abou Shaar shares insights into the Interventional Radiology training pathway in the United States, with a special focus on strategies, challenges, and advice for international medical graduates.
