🚗 In 2021, Zeekr did not exist. By 2026, this Chinese electric car brand was outselling Mercedes, BMW and Porsche across three continents. In July 2026 the Zeekr 7X sold 1,892 units in Australia in a single month, while the Mercedes GLC sold 489 and the BMW X5 just 176. The 7X became the 10th best-selling car in the whole country, not just among EVs. Today Zeekr is in more than 50 countries, with showrooms in the home cities of Mercedes and BMW.
🔋 Zeekr is not a startup. It is the premium electric brand of Geely, the Chinese car giant that owns Volvo, Lotus and Polestar and even holds a stake in Mercedes-Benz. Zeekr built its design and research center in Gothenburg, Sweden, with more than 1,500 engineers from Volvo, Saab and Polestar. Every model sits on the all-electric SEA platform with 800V technology. The Zeekr 7X charges at up to 450 kW and adds over 300 km of range in 15 minutes, faster than the Porsche Taycan’s 320 kW.
🌍 From the Zeekr 001 shooting brake to the 7X SUV, the 007 GT and the upcoming 9X flagship, Zeekr is going after the BMW iX3, Mercedes GLC, Porsche Macan Electric and Taycan. After Norway, the Netherlands and Sweden, it reached Germany, Italy, Spain and Portugal, with France and Canada next. German buyers are switching to a brand they had never heard of six months earlier. Is this the end of German dominance in premium cars? Tell us in the comments: would you choose a Zeekr over a BMW or a Mercedes?
