Kulasai Dasara, also known as Kulasekarapattinam Dasara, is one of the most famous and unique religious festivals in Tamil Nadu. It is celebrated at the Arulmigu Mutharamman Temple in Kulasekarapattinam, a coastal village in Thoothukudi district near Tiruchendur. The festival is dedicated to Goddess Mutharamman, a form of Goddess Shakti, and is celebrated for ten days during Navaratri. Devotees from Tamil Nadu, Kerala and other parts of India visit the temple to worship the goddess and participate in the celebrations. The festival is especially famous for its colourful costumes, traditional music, folk dances and unique forms of devotion. Many devotees dress up as Goddess Kali, Durga, Shiva, Murugan, Hanuman, demons, animals and various other characters as part of their religious vows. Some devotees observe fasting and spiritual discipline for several days or weeks before the festival and visit nearby places to sing, dance and collect offerings for the goddess. The most important event is Soorasamharam, which takes place on Vijayadashami, the final day of the festival. According to the religious tradition, Goddess Mutharamman defeats the demon Mahishasura, symbolising the victory of good over evil. A grand procession and ceremonial performance attract huge crowds of devotees. The festival is known for its spiritual atmosphere, spectacular costumes and rich folk traditions, making Kulasai Dasara one of the most distinctive religious celebrations in southern India. #travel
