The bus still wins Singapore to Kuala Lumpur in 2027: about S$25 (US$19) and 5.5 hours door to door — we re-priced every option to prove it. ▶ Also in this series: ▶ Bali Has No Trains — How First-Timers Actually Get Around (7 Mistakes) https://youtu.be/yT40AWUlT14 ▶ Bangkok to Siem Reap: The Border Crossing Tourists Fear — Every Option https://youtu.be/zX9wBWB36FQ ▶ Bangkok to Chiang Mai 2027: The Route Most Tourists Overpay For (Updated) https://youtu.be/L_EzDKMwnxY ▶ Manila to El Nido: Flight vs Ferry vs Bus — Philippine Island Math https://youtu.be/7-k40IPoVk0 This corridor changed more in twelve months than in the previous decade, so we re-ran our most-watched test with 2026 fares. On December 12, 2025, KTM launched direct ETS trains from JB Sentral to KL Sentral: 4 hours 20 minutes, standard class RM73-109, business class RM150-170, two departures a day each way. On May 4, 2026, Grab switched on the first licensed cross-border ride-hail between Singapore and Johor: fixed fares around S$80-180, doorstep pickup anywhere in Singapore, drop-offs in JB, Iskandar Puteri, Forest City, Kulai and Senai — booked 6 hours to 7 days ahead, and Johor only. And in December 2026 the RTS Link is scheduled to open: Woodlands North to Bukit Chagar in 5 minutes, a train every 3-4 minutes, S$5-7, with immigration cleared once before boarding. The Shuttle Tebrau (S$5, 5 minutes, sells out on weekends) remains the only rail crossing until then. Against all that, the bus still holds the crown: S$19-40 city center to city center, 5.5-6.5 hours direct to TBS, Berjaya Times Square or KL Sentral, no transfers. The full train combination costs about S$35-45 and takes about 7 hours door to door — the comfort pick. The flight is one of the busiest air routes on Earth, but a realistic booking with a 20kg bag plus the KLIA Ekspres (RM55) lands at $60-110 and about 5.5 hours door to door — bus time at three to five times bus money. Same winner for most days; after the RTS Link opens, the train becomes the right answer on Friday nights and holidays, when the causeway swallows buses whole. Every fare verified mid-2026.
