Bible in a Year Day 298
Matthew 21:28 to 22:33
Mark 12:1-27
Luke 20:9-40
Jesus told a parable of man with two sons. The first went to work grudgingly, the second agreed to go but did not. Jesus explained that the sinners will get into the kingdom of God before the Pharisees because of their belief.
Jesus told the parable of the vine-growers. A man who owned land planted a vineyard and left the vine-growers to care for the land. The man sent servants to collect his share of the harvest, and the vine-growers beat and killed all of them, even the man’s own son. So the man put them to death and gave the vineyard to others.
The Pharisees knew Jesus was talking about them and wanted to kill Him but feared the crowds.
Matthew 22 has a parable similar to The Parable of the Great Banquet in Luke 14. A man held a wedding feast, and none of his guests came. So he sent his servants into the streets to gather others. One guest did not have wedding clothes, so the man cast him out into the outer darkness. “For many are called, but few are chosen” (22:14).
Some religious leaders tried to trick Jesus again, asking if they should pay tax to Caesar. Jesus told them to pay to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God’s. According to Luke, it was spies sent by the religious leaders who tried to trick Jesus
A group of Sadducees asked Jesus about a scenario where a childless widow married each of her 6 brother-in-laws in turn, each dying and leaving her still childless. They wanted to know who would be her husband in the resurrection. Jesus replied that there is no marriage in the resurrection, and that God is the God of the living, not of the dead.
Luke ends this section with the words, “Some of the scribes answered and said, ‘Teacher, You have spoken well.’ For they did not have the courage to question Him any longer about anything.”
