First Samuel 16 opens with a king God rejected and closes with the king God provided sitting in the rejected king's house. It is a chapter about a throne, and it asks one question: who reigns? In this message we walk the whole chapter — Samuel's grief, seven sons who were not chosen, a boy left in a field, and an anointed king who went right back to the sheep — and then trace the throne from Saul, to David, to the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of David, who was mocked as King, crowned with thorns, crucified under the charge of kingship, and raised the third day. If you are standing at a door God has already closed, or measuring yourself and everyone else by the wrong ruler, or convinced God has passed you by, this message is for you. And if you have never trusted Christ, we will show you plainly from the Scriptures how a sinner is saved by grace through faith in the crucified and risen King. Scripture: 1 Samuel 16 (KJV), with 1 Samuel 8:7, 15:23, 2 Samuel 7:16, Micah 5:2, Luke 1:32, Isaiah 53, Matthew 27, 1 Corinthians 15, Acts 2:36, Ephesians 2:8–9, Acts 3:19, Romans 10:13. Preached from the King James Bible.
