“You Left Us With ‘I Love You’” was written in memory of my lifetime friend, John, and for the family who loved him. John was the kind of person who showed up. If someone needed help, he was there. He loved loudly, laughed loudly, loved his family and grandbabies fiercely, and left us with more stories than could ever fit into one song. Some of those stories still make us laugh. Some memories make us cry. All of them are part of the man we knew and loved. One thing I will always remember about John is the way he ended a conversation. He never left the people close to him wondering what they meant to him. He said it. “I love you.” This song and video are here for Carla, John’s children, grandchildren, family, and everyone who loved him—a place where you can always come back, see his face, hear the stories, laugh with him again, and remember.
