🏰 A Summer Day Through the History of Transylvania – Deva Fortress & Corvin Castle

This summer, we had the wonderful opportunity to spend an unforgettable day together as a family in Hunedoara County, joined by part of our family visiting from Lithuania. We chose to explore two of the most beautiful historic landmarks in the region: Deva Fortress and Corvin Castle in Hunedoara. Our first stop was Deva Fortress, standing high above the city on a volcanic hill overlooking the Mureș Valley. The fortress was first documented in 1269, and for centuries its strategic location made it an important defensive stronghold in Transylvania. From the top, surrounded by the walls of the old fortress, the views over Deva and the surrounding countryside are spectacular. It is one of those places where you want to stop for a few moments and imagine how many generations have looked across the same valley from this very spot. Our visit to Deva became even more special because of our reunion with Dacian, an old friend and former classmate whom we had not seen in many years. Thank you, Dacian, for your help, for spending time with us, and especially for the joy of seeing each other again after so many years! 🤗 Sometimes life takes us in completely different directions, but one reunion is enough to make all those years of distance seem to disappear. From Deva, we continued to Hunedoara and the magnificent Corvin Castle. 🏰 With its long entrance bridge, impressive towers, massive stone walls, and medieval courtyard, the castle looks like something straight out of a movie. Developed extensively during the 15th century by John Hunyadi (Ioan de Hunedoara), it is one of Romania’s most spectacular medieval monuments. Walking across the bridge and through the castle gates feels, for a little while, like stepping back in time. But beyond the history and beauty of these remarkable places, what mattered most to us was having the opportunity to experience them together. For one beautiful summer day in Transylvania, Romania, Lithuania, and America came together as one family. 🇷🇴🇱🇹🇺🇸 We left with countless photographs, stories, smiles, and one more wonderful memory to add to our family album.
