Soft golden morning light, a persimmon tree heavy with fruit outside the window, and a pudding à la mode waiting on the table.
"Kissaten" (純喫茶) are the old-fashioned Japanese coffee houses of the Showa era, at their best in the 1970s — velvet seats, siphon coffee, wobbly caramel pudding, and no one rushing you.
You may never have been to Japan. Somehow, this place still feels like somewhere you have been before.
This is the same little shop on a narrow street in Tokyo, on a mild, sunny morning in late autumn. The persimmons outside have turned orange, the siphons are bubbling, and the shop cat is asleep in a patch of sun. Three hours of quiet piano, acoustic guitar and soft saxophone, for as long as the morning lasts.
Perfect for:
• Studying, working, or reading
• Slow, bright mornings
• Falling asleep
All music is original and created for Tokyo Kissaten.
Your usual seat is free. Sit down, the coffee is on its way.
