"Sleeping Giants" I’m going home where the hills are like sleeping giants Underneath a cold and a heavy slate sky No roadmaps or markers, just the ancient defiance Of the ridges that watched all my kinfolk die Oh, the wind through the pines has a whisper like weeping And the valley is deep as a sinner's grave But I’m going home where the giants are sleeping Along the only dirt path that my Savior could save Oh, the valley holds what the mountain lost Count the shadow, never mind the cost Where the creek keeps count of the years I ran And a cold stove waiting where my people began I can hear the dry timber, the creak of the floorboards The guitar strings rust and the copperhead hums I’m a pilgrim of sorrow on these old county dirt roads And I’ll walk till the shadow of my evening comes Oh, the wind through the pines has a whisper like weeping And the valley is deep as a sinner's grave But I’m going home where the giants are sleeping Along the only dirt path that my Savior could save Where the hills roll like sleeping giants...
