IR ( Installation Resistance) Test Of Circuit Breaker
An IR (insulation resistance) test on a circuit breaker measures the integrity of its insulation by applying a DC voltage with a megohmmeter and measuring the resulting leakage current. The test is performed by disconnecting the circuit breaker's load and line conductors, applying a known DC voltage, and measuring resistance between phases, phase-to-ground, and across the open and closed contacts. The goal is to ensure high insulation resistance, which indicates that the insulation is sound and will prevent electrical leakage and potential hazards like short circuits.
