Plymouth sold millions of cars and created American icons including the Fury, Barracuda, Road Runner and Superbird. So why did Chrysler allow one of its greatest automotive brands to disappear?
This documentary explores the complete rise and fall of Plymouth—from Walter Chrysler’s affordable challenger in 1928 to the final silver Plymouth Neon leaving Belvidere Assembly in 2001.
Plymouth helped put ordinary American families behind the wheel. It produced outrageous tailfins, affordable performance cars and some of the most recognisable machines of the muscle-car era.
But corporate overlap, badge engineering and an increasingly unclear position inside Chrysler gradually stripped away the identity that made Plymouth different. By the end, its remaining models offered buyers fewer reasons to choose Plymouth over Dodge or Chrysler.
This is the story of how an automotive giant rose, ruled and finally vanished.
Which Plymouth deserves to return: the Road Runner, Barracuda, Fury, Superbird, Duster—or something else? Tell us below.
