He was Sick on the Busiest Day! | Retro Rewind #8

Welcome back to Retro Rewind – Video Store Simulator and welcome back to Take Two Video! Episode 8 begins exactly where we left off: kids’ movies have finally unlocked. We buy our first bright-purple tapes, build a dedicated kids’ section, and prepare for another winter shift. Then the doors open and the store immediately fills with what I can only describe as a sea of humanity. Exterminate sells out again, customers leave broken tapes behind, and even the shelves of VHS tapes for sale get picked over. After our biggest day yet, Phone Home arrives—the game’s wonderfully obvious E.T. tribute. I talk about how deeply E.T. affected me as a child and why the movie can still make me cry today. Then Alexander calls in sick. For the first time in about twenty in-game days, I have to run Take Two Video completely alone. That means handling the register, returns, reservations, late-fee excuses, damaged movies, customer recommendations, popcorn, slushies, and cotton candy—all while the store refuses to stop filling up. Somewhere in the chaos, I make my first rainbow slush, nearly call the police over a broken tape, forgive a late fee because of a lost goldfish, and somehow survive the night. The solo shift earns $558, costs me most of my remaining sanity, and proves that Alexander may deserve more appreciation than I usually give him. Which job would overwhelm you first: the register, returns, customer requests, or running all three concession machines? Let me know in the comments! If you enjoy relaxed retro-gaming hangouts, VHS nostalgia, strange movie titles, and watching this little video store grow, please like the video, subscribe, and join me for the next rewind.
