Families receive health and nutrition advice from many different sources, but not all of it is reliable. This lesson explains how early years practitioners can signpost parents and carers towards evidence-based, current information without telling them what to do or making them feel judged. You will learn how to recognise trustworthy sources, including NHS services, government guidance, public health campaigns and national regulators. The lesson matches common questions to appropriate support, such as NHS Start for Life for weaning and feeding, NHS Healthier Families for healthier eating and activity, Food Standards Agency guidance for allergies and food safety, and Healthy Start where affordability affects nutrition. It also covers practical ways to make signposting useful: share one specific page, highlight the relevant section, provide accessible formats and adapt support to language, culture, confidence and financial circumstances. Finally, it introduces a simple three-part routine: choose an evidence-based source, match it to the family’s question and make it easy to use, while knowing when to signpost onwards for specialist help.
