Watch how Hare Krishna chanting reveals Krishna consciousness as the essential dharma taught within ISKCON, and how regulated prasada, fasting, sadhu-sanga and attentive japa purify the heart. 📿 📖 Scripture: Srimad Bhagavatam 4.28.35-36 🎤 Speaker: Sundarananda Dasa GuruMaharaja 📍 Location: ISKCON Bergen — Sri Sri Nitai Gauracandra Mandir, Bergen, Norway 🗓️ Date: September 3, 2026 Go deeper in this video, “Control the Tongue, Purify the Heart 🌿 Sripad Sundarananda Prabhu,” as Maharaj explains external and internal purification. Srimad Bhagavatam 4.28.35-36: tatra candravasa nama tamraparni vatodaka tat-punya-salilair nityam ubhayatratmano mrjan kandasthibhir mula-phalaih puspa-parnais trnodakaih vartamanah sanair gatra- karsanam tapa asthitah Translation: “In the province of Kulacala, there were rivers named Candravasa, Tamraparni and Vatodaka. King Malayadhvaja used to go to those pious rivers regularly and take his bath there. Thus he purified himself externally and internally. He took his bath and ate bulbs, seeds, leaves, flowers, roots, fruits and grasses and drank water. In this way he underwent severe austerities. Eventually he became very skinny.” Drawing from Srila Prabhupada’s purport, Guru Maharaj explains that devotees should honor prasada without overeating. Fasts such as Ekadashi and the appearance and disappearance days of the Lord and His devotees help restrain the body, reduce excess sleep and laziness, and preserve time for devotional service. To control the tongue also helps control the belly and genitals; this tapasya can purify the heart and support steady bhakti yoga. The class asks what it means to chant at least sixteen rounds “nicely.” Through Ajamila’s history, Maharaj describes nama aparadha, nama abhasa and the pure name. After hearing the servants of Yamaraja and the Vishnudutas, Ajamila understood the power of chanting the holy name, left home for Haridwar, received sadhu-sanga and perfected his chanting. The holy name never becomes impure because the name is not different from Krishna. The chanter becomes purified through guru’s mercy, devotee association, regulated practice and avoidance of offenses. The pure name is both sadhana and sadhya: the practice and the goal. When chanting becomes pure, the devotee attains Krsna. Therefore, being krishna conscious must become a serious commitment in this life. Maharaj also reminds parents to train their children in japa from an early age. For Kali-yuga, Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu gave Bhagavata dharma through the mahamantra: Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare. Maharaj recalls the twelve mahajanas, explains that genuine dharma is established by the Supreme Lord, and shows how this simple path can transform your life. Through chanting, dancing and prasada—even the account of Mahaprabhu’s extraordinary mango tree—the path of spirituality becomes joyful. By bhakti, one gradually realizes the Lord’s form, qualities and pastimes and can return home, back to Godhead. 🙏 If this class touched Your heart, please LIKE, COMMENT, SHARE and SUBSCRIBE.
