2nd Alarm Building Fire - Elm Grove, Wheeling, WV - 2009

This video shows the Wheeling, West Virginia Fire Department — IAFF Local 12 — responding to and operating at a working building fire in the Elm Grove section of Wheeling in 2009. The fire was located at 2109 #4 National Road, next door to State Farm and across the street from Ohio County Schools and Wheelcraft. This video was given to me while I was running Wheeling Fire Buffs. The person who filmed it later became a Wheeling Firefighter/Paramedic. At the time this was recorded, I believe he was going through the testing process for the Wheeling Fire Department. During the video, the incident is dispatched as an “All Hands Working” fire. Companies and personnel heard or seen responding include: Engine 11 Engine 10 Engine 2 Engine 5 Ladder 1 Rescue 1 Squad 7 Duty Chief C-2 Murphy Fire Chief C-1 Chief Mechanic Graham C-7 WFD Mechanic Wheeling Police Department I cannot confirm from the video that the incident was officially transmitted as a Second Alarm. However, the response included a fourth engine company, which was consistent with the additional engine assignment used on a Second Alarm structure-fire response at the time. Typically, a Second Alarm assignment would bring additional engine companies and Ladder 6. I do not know whether Ladder 6 responded to this particular box. C-2 Murphy can be heard directing an aggressive fire attack throughout the incident. The operations shown here are a good look back at how Wheeling Fire Department companies operated at a working structure fire in Elm Grove during this era.
