It is the first level crossing trains get to when they enter the Sunshine Coast Line from the Colchester Direction, and it is between Colchester and Colchester Town Stations. This level crossing is quite busy, yet the alarms are fairly quiet. An abandoned signal box in a rather neglected state still overlooks the level crossing to this date, and this signal box ceased operation in 2009 during the Colchester to Clacton re-signalling project. Trains pass this level crossing very slowly when travelling between Colchester and Colchester Town Stations, much slower than they do over a majority of level crossings on the rail network.
